Lamp Styles: Green/White and Black/White
The main ingredients of my lighting and furniture are decommissioned street signs salvaged in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. This particular form was inspired by French designer Martine Bedin who was a member of the Memphis group which in the 1980’s turned against functionalism by creating cheerful, playful objects. Her piece was called ” Super Light”. Most of my work focuses on transportation. I enjoy taking remnants of the high-speed American automobile culture and re-purposing them as stationary objects.
The light I built acts as a desk/table lamp or a a sconce. I have a wide selection of bulbs: all the colors of the rainbow (great for a child’s room), Compact Fluorescents, and vintage Edison style (pictured). Another distinctive feature is the lamp is weather-proof so it may be installed OUTSIDE!
All of these pieces are one-of-a-kind, yet similar forms and materials can be re-created upon request.
Materials: Salvaged aluminum street signs, ceramic light sockets, glass tube style Edison bulbs (long life)
