This series of chairs is based in wanting to make a chair whose form was also its structure. . .like a cardboard box. There’s also the desire to create a sense of volume without the weight – again, like a box. Hence the name box chair. This design lends itself to working in series because much variety in color and texture can be easily accommodated within the parameters of it’s construction.
All of these pieces are one-of-a-kind, yet can easily be made to order. Chair construction: hand formed, riveted, and bolted salvaged. Most materials used to build the chairs were recovered after Hurricane Katrina.
